The Month of St. Joseph: Simple Catholic Devotions for March

Monthly Devotion St. Joseph

In the Catholic Church, March is dedicated to honouring St. Joseph, making it the perfect time to get to know him better and reflect on his virtues of humility, faith, and steadfast devotion, and inspiring us to live with purpose and compassion in our daily lives.

St. Joseph's feast day is March 19.

He is the patron saint of the Universal Church, Families, Fathers, Workers, a Happy Death and much more.

Here are some ideas to deepen your devotion to St. Joseph:

  • Pray the Litany of St. Joseph. Reflect on some of the attributes listed in the litany, and pray for an increase in these character qualities in your life.

  • Display a picture or statue of St. Joseph in a prominent place in your home as a reminder of his example, and to encourage you to ask for his intercession in your life. I love this plaque with his title "Terror of Demons".

  • Pray a novena to St Joseph, beginning on March 10, to end on his feast day of March 19.

  • Consecrate yourself to St. Joseph using the book Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father, by Donald Calloway.

  • Celebrate his feast day on March 19th by attending Mass.

  • Seek St. Joseph’s Protection for Your Family: St. Joseph is the patron saint of fathers, families, and workers. During times of stress or difficulty, ask St. Joseph to protect and guide your family, just as he did for Jesus and Mary.

  • Spend some daily prayer time with St. Joseph using a prayer book, such as Day by Day with St. Joseph.

  • Since St. Joseph is the patron saint of the dying, ask for his intercession for those who are dying and ask him to comfort them in their last hours.

  • The Litany of St. Joseph refers to him as the Hope of the Sick and the patron of the poor, afflicted, and dying, highlighting his deep compassion and care for those who suffer. This month, consider honouring him by performing one or more works of mercy.

As we honour St. Joseph this March, may we grow in love, patience, and faith.

St. Joseph, pray for us and for our families.
